Soccer Season Recap
This winter, our soccer team truly found their stride together. It was a young group that used the preseason to build connections, and adjust to the pace and physicality of varsity-level competition.
Team chemistry was strengthened off the field as well. Their annual holiday gift exchange and a memorable beach practice in Pacifica created space for bonding.
By the time regular season play began, the Bears had found their rhythm and timing. An early tie against Priory set the tone for the season. The Bears rolled through much of their competition and set up a highly anticipated matchup of the unbeatens against Harker.
Although we were unable to get past the Eagles in that first meeting, the loss became motivation. It sharpened their focus for the remainder of the season.
Senior Night brought one of the most thrilling moments I have witnessed in high school soccer. Hosting Harker, who had already secured the league championship, the Bears trailed for most of the game. With only stoppage time remaining, a handball was called. Gia Gasanyan stepped up to the penalty spot and struck a perfectly placed ball just beyond the goalkeeper's fingertips to tie the game. The energy was electric—but what stood out most was the team's composure under pressure. It was the most exciting soccer game I have been a part of.
The Bears finished the season in 2nd place, our highest soccer finish during my time here. More than the standings, this season was defined by growth, resilience, and a young team that matured together and raised the standard for the program.
