Bear Necessities Volume 26
This past weekend, Mercy Track and Field made its season debut at Junípero Serra High School. While it was a small meet, it marked an important step in the right direction as we officially kicked off the season.
This year's team has generated the highest level of interest during my time at Mercy, with nearly 37 athletes participating. The Bears are a young group, but there is a great deal of talent that will continue to develop over the coming months. One of the unique aspects of track and field is how it brings together athletes from across campus, runners, throwers, and jumpers, all working individually in hopes of contributing to the team's overall success.
At track meets, live scoring is often available, which can be both motivating and challenging. For some athletes, instant results can lead to unhelpful comparisons, while others may thrive on knowing exactly how much ground or time they need to make up. Regardless of how athletes respond to live results, the most important focus remains the same: not the immediate feedback loop, but the daily commitment to improvement. Small steps everyday can lead to great strides.
