Bear Necessities Volume 14
This past week we celebrated a major milestone in the progress of our first-ever Student Life Center with final beam being placed into position. In the days leading up to the rising of the beam, Dr. CB invited all students, faculty, and staff to sign the beam, a gesture that ensured that all of us will remain a part of this new facility long after we are gone.
On Monday evening we hosted our Annual Fall Sports Awards Ceremony, and it was standing room only. I am happy to say we have officially outgrown the Great Hall as we continue to grow our programs. That night, Dr. CB invited all attending families to sign the beam, and as each team wrapped up its celebration, parents eagerly stepped forward to add their names, sometimes including the names of every family member who attended Mercy. Several of our coaches, excited for this new addition, also signed. As the evening went on, one parent said exactly what I had been thinking: "Next year we will do this in the gym!"
On Tuesday, we all gathered on the patio and watched the beam rise into place, with both a flag and a small Christmas tree. I learned from Mr. Lydon that adding a tree or branch is considered good luck for any new construction project.
I am grateful for the thoughtful ways Dr. CB includes our community in these moments, and I am excited for what the future holds.
