Bear Necessities Volume 10
This past week, Mercy proudly hosted our annual Pink Week, a cherished tradition where all of our fall sports teams come together to honor and raise awareness for breast cancer.
Each team showed support by adding a touch of pink to their uniforms from pink flags for Flag Football, pink skirts and balls for Tennis, pink polos and balls for Golf, to pink volleyballs and jerseys for Volleyball.
Our Girls Athletic Association (GAA) Leadership Team designed this year's official Pink Week T-shirt and sold it throughout the week during lunch. Together with the Student Body Officers (SBOs), the GAA Leadership Team also hosted our Pink Week Rally on Thursday, where students shared facts about breast cancer awareness. One of our most meaningful traditions continued as several students and faculty members donated their hair to Locks of Love.
The celebration carried into the evening with our Dig Pink Volleyball Game, where our team parents organized a concession stand that kept fans fueled all afternoon and evening. Before the varsity match, we held a special program to honor everyone who helped make the event possible and to acknowledge all those affected by cancer in our community. Adding to the spirit of the night, the Serra Band serenaded the crowd during timeouts and between sets, while our spirit squads delivered dazzling performances that brought incredible energy to the gym.
It was a truly special evening, one that embodied the very best of Mercy's spirit, compassion, and community.
I am proud to share that through donations, T-shirt sales, concessions, and ticket purchases, nearly $3,750 was raised for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this Pink Week one to remember!
